I hope you're all enjoying the summer (or winter, for
those readers in the southern hemisphere). Although
it's usually the time for vacations and getting away
from it all, I'm thinking many of you are like myself,
and staying a little closer to home in response to the
high gas prices. However, as a reader, I have to admit
that an engrossing book can take me just as far, if not
farther away, than any car or airplane. So if you're
like me, and not intending to take any long trips this
summer, take time off in a comfy chair (in the house or
outside under the sun) and escape with a book!
I've had some exciting news in the past couple of
months. First off, my book
A Reason to Believe was the
winner of the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award in
the American set historical category! Yippeeeee!! And
secondly, I learned that
A Reason to Believe was picked
up by a publishing house in Norway! I'd love to see
what my book will look like in Norsk--not that I'd be
able to read it, but it would be fun!
I'm happy to report that my next book, a romantic
suspense titled Where There's Fire has made it through
copy edits and proofreading. Yaaay! After my three
Forrester brothers western books, it was quite a change
to step back into the contemporary world. My hero in
Where There's Fire is an amnesiac living on the street.
My challenge with this book was to create a man who
lived on the street, ate in soup kitchens, went through
dumpsters, and lived in an abandoned warehouse, and yet
make him a hero. With my John McClane (for those of you
who recognize the name--yes, it is intentional), I
brought to life a man with no history but whose basic
core shines through. John is a protector and he
safeguards those he cares about, including a tough old
bird named Estelle who carries a gun she calls Morey,
her granddaughter Mishon who works the streets, and a
great-granddaughter Lainey who's seven and gave John his
name. The heroine, Shoni Alexander, is a detective
skirting the edge after losing her mother. John is a
witness that needs protection but doesn't want it;
Shoni's case hinges on John's statement and she's not
about to let him get killed. Of course, they might kill
each other before they actually solve the case….
Where There's Fire is a romance, a mystery, and a
suspense all rolled into one and will be out in
October. Stay tuned for an excerpt from my new book
sometime in the next month or two, as well as a new
contest!
Take care, my friends, and thank you all for your
support and enthusiasm! I treasure all your comments,
as well as your emails.
God Bless!
Maureen
